The army of Ancient Egypt was not one of the most favored jobs. The soldiers rarely wore armor and depended solely on a shield for defence. Usually just a short kilt made of linen. They wore sandals on their feet. They wore so little due to the need to stay as cool as possible in the blistering desert heat. Usually armies had 100,000 people in them. They also had 200 barbarians in them. They had lots of weapons though. They invented the battle-axe, Maces, swords, daggers, the Composite bow and the Horn bow. The spear could eather be a projectile or a close combat weapon. It was a pointed blade made out of flint or copper that was attached to a wooden staff. There was a type of spear (called a halberd) that was fitted in a ax blade and was used for slashing or cutting. The spear was usually used to hunt big animals like a lion. It could be used as a javelin and put on a bow but arrows were easier to mass produce. The spear was short and javelin like. Though there were lots of different kins of spear the bow and arrow was one of the most crucial weapons.

The first bow was called the Horn bow. It was called that because it was made out of two antelope horns joined by a central piece of wood. Later on we found out that they started making them out of one piece of wood and the string out of plant fiber. After that we found that they started using bronze tips for the arrows. During the New Kingdom they started using the Composite bow. Now the Composite bow was difficult to use and required dexterity, strength and years of practice. Only one person mastered it. Amenhotep II drew three hundred of the bows hardest to bend in order to examine the workmanship, to distinguish between a worker who doesn't know his profession and the expert. We are then told that he chose a bow without flaw which only he could draw (aka the Composite bow).-->

Egyptians didn't like the idea of fighting in foreign countries because the might have died there and if they weren't taken back to Egypt, they would have no chance of having a second life. Soldiers would often go on long campaigns that would take them away from home for months at a time. Also an Egyptian soldier's life could be extremely boring and monotonous at times especially if stationed at one of the many forts that protected ancient Egypt's borders. These forts often never saw action or would not be involved in action for months or years at a time. Wow! Soldiers lived in the barracks at the various forts or camps constructed in ancient Egypt. These buildings were made of mud bricks that kept the soldiers cool in the extremely hot desert temperatures. Their uniforms were simple; usually just a short kilt made of linen. They wore sandals on their feet. They wore so little due to the need to stay as cool as possible in the blistering desert heat. They rarely wore armor and depended instead solely on a shield for defense. Sometimes they would wear armor made of hardened leather straps.
